TOPIC: Compare your unemployment benefits?
#41
Compare your unemployment benefits? 1 Year, 8 Months ago Karma: 5
In my case, after working for over 5 years, age 30+, with no dependants, I've been granted about 61.5% of my previous wage before taxes etc. Works out at about 67% of my old take-home pay, seeing as there are no deductions. Not sure how I go about paying tax now, but I'm sure that will come up soon enough.

I could theoretically receive this for 180 days, with a possible 60 day extension.

Amazing cover, though I don't expect to receive much of it before I leave town.

I know this forum is mostly empty, but has anyone else had better or worse results? Just curious...

I think when I received payments (3 something years ago) I was only eligible for 90 days. I'm not sure how much it was, but it was difficult to pay the bills.

Are you giving up on Eikaiwa and going home?
I'm starting to think I should consider it myself. Japan's economy looks like it will follow Greece and the English industry doesn't seem like it will get any better anytime soon.
Anyway enough gloomy talk, good luck with whatever you do

Thanks. I'll be moving into translation, but not before spending a year or so travelling. Eikawa was fun, but I'm looking for something different. I might end up doing a mix of the two.

Right now I'm just wondering how much longer I can hold onto my Yen savings... it seems a perfect time to move it all into another currency, but the Yen has been amazingly resilient so far.

The yen has dropped a bit since last week, but it still looks pretty good. I hope it holds out long enough for me to send some home!

A lot of people dream of doing translation, it is great if you are able to do it I long ago gave up the thought of me doing translation, but I guess I am not motivated enough.
